Babra Sharif Biography

Babra Sharif (Urdu: بابرہ شریف, Baabra. born 1954) is an actress in the Pakistani film industry during the 1980s and late 1970s. She started her career in television commercials. She made her presence felt in a 'Jet' washing powder commercial and came to be known as 'Jet' powder girl. Fair-haired, attractive and intelligent, Babra soon became a household name. Her appearance in the 'Lux' advertisement with the message, 'Aakhir loag hamara chehra he to deiktay hain', took her fame to the top. After a while, she appeared in Mohsin Shirazi's television play, which was telecast from Karachi television station. She worked with many famous names of her time, including Shahid, Nadeem, Waheed Murad, Ghulam Mohyedin and even Muhammad Ali. She had great success in Urdu films in Pakistan. She did a variety of roles which proved her versatility as an actress. Some critics have also considered her as the best actress of her time in Pakistan.[citation needed]

She worked in more than 100 movies.

Career

After working in PTV drama Kiran Kahani in 1973, her first film was Intezar in 1974. Confident of her acting potential, Shamim Ara signed her for the film Bhool in 1974. Bhool was scheduled to be directed by S.Sulaiman. Prior to Bhool, S.Sulaiman had already signed Barbara for his film Intezaar. Incidentally, Intizaar was released before Bhool. Hence, Barbara debuted in the film Intezaar as supporting actress in 1974. To set the record straight, both Intezaar and Bhool were released in 1974. Barbara's innocent face distinguished her from other actresses of her time.

She moved on to a supporting role in Bhool, then to Haqeeqat, Shama, Shabab Kiranvi's Mera Naam Hai Mohabbat, which was a super hit. This led to a string of films culminating in Salakhain, which proved to be one of her best works. She also worked in Pakistan's first sc-fi movie Shaani. In 1978 she married to film star Shahid, but the couple soon divorced and she did not get married again.

Despite her hard work in films, Barbara had to look for more opportunities in movies, which did not came immediately. In 1975, she appeared as supporting actress, in director Masood Pervez's film 'Mera naa patay khan'. Neelo and Shahid played the lead roles. Her efforts took on a new intensity and she proved her worth in the Pakistani cinema. She worked in director Iqbal Kashmiri's film Shareef Budmaash. Ali Sufyan Aafaqi's film Ajnabi, Nazar Shabab's film Naukar. An undeterred Barbara, dressed to perform, played the lead role opposite Ghulam Mohyedin, in director Wazeer Ali's film Masoom. In her movies, even ordinary things capture tranquility. Her most memorable role came in the super hit film Mera naam hai mohabbat, directed by Shabab Kiranvi. Barbara and Ghulam Mohyedin played the lead roles. Her fame sky- rocketed soon after the theatrical release of Mera naam hai mohabbat. In reality, Barbara became the most sought after actress from 1976 onwards. Moreover, the year 1976 was most definitely the best year for her films as well. In 1976, she worked in director Pervez Malik's film Talaash. In director Shabab Kiranvi's film Dewar. In director Ali Sufyan Aafaqi's film Aag aur Aansoo. Foremost was her sweeping 1976 movie, Shabana, directed by Zafar Shabab. The film successfully completed golden jubilee, by winning performances turned in by Barbara, Waheed Murad and Shahid.

In her twenty- three- year film career, 1974–1997, Barbara worked in more or less one hundred fifty films. Her auspicious performance in 'Shabana', led to more successful movies. Below are six such films:

'Pyar ka wada', 'Manzil', 'Teray bina kya jeena', 'Daman', 'La jawab', 'Ye zamana aur hai'.

Babra received a Nigar Award for Shabana, and another Nigar Award for Tina and has received this Award 8 times. Presently she is semi retired.

She temporarily resumed her career as a model and currently owns a jewellery shop in Karachi. She gave matchless performance in Nadan Nadia, a Pakistan television comedy play by Anwar Maqsood. She has appeared in a Lux 50 years celebration commercial.

Meera (Irtiza Rubab) Biography

Acting career

Before starting her acting career, she worked as a model and gained fame after her first TV commercial in 1994. During her career, Meera has acted in over two hundred films[1] including Urdu, Punjabi and Hindi. Meera has won the Best Actress award ten times and she has established herself as one of the leading contemporary actresses in the Pakistani film industry. Besides working in Lollywood films, Meera[3] has also worked in Bollywood films.[4][5][6] Meera has often been cited by the media for the most beautiful actress of Lollywood and won the Lux Style award for the most beautiful face of the year in 2007. Meera has been reported on most channels in India[7] and has graced many magazines and tabloids. Meera has also appeared in many ads across Pakistan & Dubai.

Kaun Banega Meera Patti

She is currently part of the GEO television reality show Kaun Banega Meera Patti. This show is based on 13 contestants battling out a chance to get married to the actress and model. The series aired on television on May 19, 2011.

Controversy

Meera was always a subject for major controversies in Pakistan. Her first very hyped and controversial news[10] was due to the fact there was a kissing scene with Sir Taji[11] in Mahesh Bhatt's movie,[12][13] "Nazar.[14]" Meera also received death threats for doing the scene.[15] Then Prime Minister of Pakistan Shaukat Aziz promised proper security for Meera when she returned to Pakistan. Meera stood her ground and did say that she is an actress and that she has not done anything wrong.[16] There were rumours of her being fined for kissing[17] in a Bollywood Movie.The director of the movie, Mahesh Bhatt defended Meera and appealed to President Musharraf to help the cause of India-Pakistan friendship through exchange of entertainers.

The other major controversy surrounding the stunning actress was when she was married for a short term to a Pakistani businessman Atiq-Ur-Rehman, who was already married. Her ex-husband was also arrested for threatening her and charged.[31] Up till today Meera denies any reports of her being Atiq-Ur-Rehman's second wife. Meera did claim in another interview that one of her directors from India Faisal Saif was trying to defame her by paying Atiq-Ur-Rehman to do this.

Meera was also stopped at the Karachi airport for the possession of two passports.

Meera's mother and brother Syed Ahsan Abbas were accused[39] for kidnapping Abbas son by his ex-wife.[40] Meera's name was mentioned along with her brother and mother. Meera came to her brother's rescue to the police station.

Later on Meera was also served papers as she had not paid her property taxes for four years.

Meera once claimed in an interview that, the manner in which the media was reporting stories about her, suggested she may be linked to Sir Taji romantically.

Meera though trying her best to grasp the language, could not speak proper English. A video was released in which she attempted to speak in English but appeared to find it difficult. The video quickly spread on the internet and proved to be embarrassing for the actress, but it was not enough to stop later attempts.

Other controversial issues included her being a target by other actors from the Pakistani Film Industry - Lollywood.[48] At the Lux Style Award, some actors gave back their awards in order to protest against Pakistani stars going to the Indian Film industry. When Meera launched her website,[49] the issues regarding her age[50] as well as other criticism followed.[51]

Meera entered India from Delhi,[52] when the official entry point on her visa was Mumbai. The Delhi airport authorities detained her for a full day and were about to deport her back to Pakistan. Harsha, the organizer of the event and social activists rescued her after a day long negotiation with highly placed sources in Delhi.[53]

Meera lodged a complaint on 7 September 2009 at Punjab's Chief Minister's Complaint Cell that Faisal Saif[54] was trying to defame her reputation by creating a fake marriage[55] between her and an agent working for Saif. Meera also said that Faisal was threatening to kill her. Faisal however denied all the allegations. On 15 October 2009, Meera presented audio tapes to the press, revealing conversations between her and Saif. The Actress claimed that Faisal has agreed that the fake marriage pictures were doctored by him. Faisal has again denied these allegations.[citation needed]
Social work

Welfare Organization

Meera plans to establish a social welfare organization that will provide shelter to homeless and needy women. The project will be named after her mother Shafqat Zara. A complex spread over an area of 16 acres (65,000 m2) of land will be constructed near Lahore comprising a school, hospital and home for the needy and homeless women. Meera's mother donated land for the project and Meera intends to complete the huge project herself.[citation needed]
India-Pakistan Peace Walk

Meera was invited for the India-Pakistan peace March from Delhi to Multan on 23 March 2005, It was led by Dr. Sandeep Pandey, a Magsaysay awardee. Film director, Mahesh Bhatt promoted the event in media.[citation needed]
Other involvements

Meera also joined hands with Imran Khan's Telethon for the flood victims in Pakistan.[56] Meera was seen supporting former President Pervez Musharraf's new political party All Pakistan Muslim League (APML).[citation needed]

Early life

Ayesha was born in Chembur Mumbai, Maharashtra to a Gujarati father, Nishit and a half British - half Maharashtrian mother, Faridah. She attended St. Anthony's High School in Chembur. She has a younger sister named Natasha.

Career

Ayesha started her career with the "I am a Complan Girl!" advertising campaign and she also appeared in a music video, Falguni Pathak's Meri Chunarii Udd Udd Jaye, when she was fifteen. She then appeared in the video, Shake It Daddy when she was sixteen, which brought her to the attention of the film industry, and a few film offers followed. She signed a contract for Socha Na Tha. However, there were delays in making Socha Na Tha so the film Taarzan released first and was therefore her "debut" film. She won the Filmfare Best Debut Award in 2004 for her performance in Taarzan: The Wonder Car. Ayesha's latest release was Wanted costarring Salman Khan. It emerged as the one of the biggest blockbusters of 2009.[2]

Personal life

On 1 March 2009, Ayesha married Farhan Azmi, a restaurateur and the son of politician Abu Azmi, a Samajwadi Party leader.[3][dead link] The couple had originally planned to marry in December 2008, but the wedding was delayed due to the 2008 Mumbai attacks.

Imran Khan (Actor) Biography

Imran Khan (Bengali: ইমরান খান; born Imran Pal, 13 January 1983) is an Indian American^[1] film actor.^[2] He is the nephew of actor Aamir Khan and producer-director Mansoor Khan.^[3] Khan gained popularity for his role in the 2008 film Jaane Tu... Ya Jaane Na.

Personal life

Khan became engaged to his long-time girlfriend, Avantika Malik, on 16 January 2010 in the farm house of Avantika's family in Karjat near Navi Mumbai.^[16] The couple married on 10 January 2011 at a private civil ceremony at Aamir Khan's home in Pali Hill, Mumbai.^[17]

Television

Khan co-hosted the 54th & 56th Filmfare Awards alongside Ranbir Kapoor. Along with his uncle Aamir Khan, he appeared on the popular television show Dus Ka Dum hosted by Salman Khan.^[13] He also appeared on the show, Tere Mere Beach Mein along with Kareena Kapoor.^[14] In 2010, he made an appearance on the show Koffee with Karan alongside Ranbir Kapoor.^[15]

2008-present

Khan made his debut as a lead actor in the 2008 film Jaane Tu... Ya Jaane Na directed by Abbas Tyrewala, produced by Aamir Khan and Mansoor Khan and co-starring Genelia D'Souza. The film received rave reviews from critics and proved to be one of the biggest hits of the year.^[10] Khan was furthermore nominated for Best Male Debut at the 54th Filmfare Awards and won it along with Farhan Akhtar.

His next movie was Kidnap with Sanjay Dutt and Minissha Lamba, where he played a negative role. The movie flopped at the box office, attributed by critics to its poorly executed direction. However, Khan's performance was appreciated and earned him an IIFA Award nomination in 2009. Khan made his next appearance in the action film, Luck with Shruti Haasan and Sanjay Dutt.^[11]

Child artist

Khan made appearances as a child artist in his uncle Aamir's films, Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak (1988)^[9] and Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikander (1992). Both times he played the role of a young Aamir Khan. He aspired to be a director, as that was his original plan before he entered Bollywood as an actor. Khan joined Kishore Namit Kapoor's Acting Institute in Mumbai.

Early life

Khan was born to Anil Pal, a Hindu Bengali^[4][5] and Nuzhat Khan in Madison, Wisconsin, USA.^[6] His father works as a consultant at LinkedIn in Silicon Valley. His parents divorced when he was one and a half years old and he replaced his surname Pal with Khan.^[7] He is the nephew of actor Aamir Khan, director Mansoor Khan and the grandson of Nasir Hussain, a noted director and producer. In India, he studied at Bombay Scottish School but he left that school and transferred to a boarding school in Ooty.^[8]
